Coal India’s biggest recruitment 2019-20 – At a time when slow economy has prompted companies in sectors to reduce manpower, Coal India employs 9,000 people, 4,000 people in executive cadre to fill vacant posts Is planning

“Coal India has been recruiting a number of officers once a year for almost a decade in an effort to fill all the vacancies pending for many years. Last year, we recruited only 1,200 people, ”a senior Coal India executive told ET.

Its seven coal producing subsidiaries will recruit 5,000 workers and technical hands. Some 2,350 will be hired as part of the company’s policy of hiring a family member of employees who died before retirement. About 400 will be held in non-technical positions.

Coal India was established in 1975 and a large number of people have reached their retirement age. In the last three years, approximately 12,300 employees are retiring from the company every year. Due to this many posts are lying vacant. While not all will be filled, the company needs to be recruited extensively over the next few years to ensure its workforce status is adequate.

The company is also approving all backlogs of promotions for non-officials which were pending since 2013. It has finished work by 2017 and has promoted some 3,000 people to non-technical positions, while another 3,000 will be promoted in due time.
